BROOKLYN,NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team returned back to its winning ways Monday evening with a 91-49 Skyline Conference road victory over the NYU-Poly Fighting Jays from Jacobs Gymnasium.  The win snapped Old Westbury's two game losing streak and improved to 7-4 on the season and 3-1 in conference action while sending the Fighting Jays to 2-8 overall and 0-4 in conference play. 

Old Westbury was solid from the opening tip and led the whole way.  Omari Trebuse connected on a three-pointer to break the scoring ice and moments later Ray Parker dialed in from long distance to pt Old Westbury up 14-3 with 16:38 remaining on the first-half clock.  Brendan Gallagher sank a pair of free-throws to slice NYU-Poly's deficit to nine points before Trebuse converted a three-point play to put Old Westbury back up by double-digits for good with 6:31 left.  Old Westbury led by as many as 17 in the opening half and held a 43-27 advantage at the break.    

The Panthers opened the second-half with a 23-5 run to make it a 66-32 game with 13:32 showing on the second-half clock.  Old Westbury's lead blossomed to as many as 45 points due in part to a 20-3 run from 11:14 to 3:16 to lead 86-41.

Floyd Leroy led all scorers with 22 points (9-13 FG), which tied a career-high to go along with four steals (career-high).  Trebuse followed with 17 points, eight assists (season-high), five rebounds and four steals.  Mark Gjonlekaj added 13 points, nine rebounds (career-high) and two blocked shots while Ray Parker and Nat Vaughan scored 13 and 12 points, respectively.  Andrew Andries was a force upfront for the Panthers, in addition to his 11 rebounds (tied career-high), he recorded career-highs of nine points (4-4 FG) and six blocked shots in 25 minutes of action.  Dom Bostick also contributed 10 rebounds. 

Gallagher paced NYU-Poly with 11 points and 14 rebounds.  Issac Neaves chipped in with 10 points and two blocks. 

Old Westbury finished the game shooting 47.5 percent from the field (38-80), 27.6 percent from beyond the arc (8-29) and 43.8 percent from the free-throw line (7-16) as NYU-Poly struggled to shoot 22.2 percent from the floor (14-63), 5.0 percent from three-point range (1-20) and 66.7 percent from the charity stripe (20-30).  NYU-Poly won the boards battle, 51-50, scoring 18 second chance points off 18 offensive rebounds.  Old Westbury finished with a season-best 13 steals and committed a season-low five turnovers while scoring 24 points off 20 NYU-Poly miscues.


MARITIME PRIVATEERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury continues play in conference action on Thursday (January 9) when they return home to take on the Maritime Privateers in Old Westbury, New York.  Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. inside Clark Athletic Center.
