@OW_Panthers Men’s Soccer battles hard at Maritime

Old Westbury closes out non-conference play on Monday (Oct. 20) at Rowan


THROGGS NECK, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team lost a 1-0 Skyline Conference battle on the road Saturday afternoon to the Maritime Privateers from Reinhart Field.  The loss moves Old Westbury (7-7-0) to 2-4-0 in conference play while Maritime (7-6-1) improved to 3-2-1 on the season. 

Maritime broke the scoring ice early at 5:27 off the foot of Shieck Wattara for a 1-0 Privateer lead.   Tim Swinehart's throw in to Jon Dubowyk found Wattara for what proved to be the game-winning goal. 

Old Westbury threatened in the 76th minute but were unable to deliver the equalizer when Adan Cruz-Velasquez's shot just missed the left post.  Old Westbury's defense clamped down in the second half, allowing Maritime to take just two second-half shots.    

Kelvin Rivera (3-4-0) made three saves in defeat for Old Westbury while Karl Weber (6-4-1) stopped six shots to record Maritime's shutout. 

In the end, Old Westbury held the advantage in shots (15-11), shots on goal (6-4) and corner kicks.  

ROWAN PROFS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury travels to Glassboro, New Jersey for a non-conference showdown on Monday (Oct. 20) against the Rowan Profs from Rowan Soccer Complex at 6 p.m.
