@OW_Panthers Men’s Soccer Battles Hard Against Brooklyn

Adan Cruz-Velasquez and Alexander Routledge each scored in Monday’s non-conference road affair in Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team allowed the game-winning goal in the 88th minute in Monday's 3-2 non-conference road loss to the Brooklyn Bulldogs from Brooklyn College Field.  The loss sent Old Westbury's overall record to 6-5-0 while Brooklyn improved to 4-8-0 on the season.

Brooklyn's Fernand Grisales rattled the back of the net at 15:56 off Andres Pertuz's feed for an early 1-0 lead.  Grisales' score was the lone tally in the opening 45 minutes as Brooklyn held the first-half advantage in shots (11-7) while Old Westbury earned a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

Adan Cruz-Velasquez opened the second-half scoring books just 1:20 into play, banging home Angel Velez's fifth assist of the season to knot the game at 1-1.  Grisales put Brooklyn back up at 76:14 off Juan Arreola's cross in the box for a 2-1 advantage.  At 80:03, Alexander Routledge blasted a free kick past a diving Brooklyn goalie Ilya Keygen to deliver the equalizer, making it a 2-2 game.  Routledge's goal was the first of his career. Grisales struck again to record his third goal of the game for the game-winner at 87:51, putting home a rebound past Panther goalie Kelvin Rivera off Igor Pacca's free kick.

In the end, Brooklyn held the edge in shots (24-16) and shots on goal (11-6) while Old Westbury claimed a 4-3 margin in corner kicks.

Peter Sicardi stopped five shots and allowed one goal in the opening half before Rivera (2-2-0) made two saves and allowed two goals in the final 45 minutes to earn Old Westbury's loss.  Keygen turned away four shots in a complete game effort to claim Brooklyn's win.
