@OW_Panthers Men’s Basketball scores three in double figures against Sage

Luckens Victor scored a career-high 17 points to lead Old Westbury

ALBANY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) -The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team fell victim to a late 17-0 rally by the Sage Gators in Monday's 88-71 Skyline Conference road setback from Kahl Gymnasium in Albany, New York.  The loss snapped Old Westbury's (3-10) three-game win streak, which moved the Panthers to 3-3 in conference play as Sage (8-3) improved to 4-2.

Sage jumped ahead early with a 4-2 lead before Old Westbury's Luckens Victor and Jaquan Potter combined to score eight unanswered points for a 10-4 Panther advantage with 17:11 remaining.  Sage answered with a 10-3 run to take a 14-13 lead with 15:54 left.  Sage took the lead for good off Jacob Sopchak's layup with 13:01 showing for a 20-19 edge.  Sage later used a 14-5 run to go up 40-30 with 4:14 remaining.  Old Westbury countered with an 11-2 run to make it a 42-41 game with 2:04 left in the half.  Sage knocked down a pair of three pointers over the final 1:01 to take a 50-43 advantage into the half.

Luckens scored all five of Old Westbury's opening points in the second half while Sage scored nine points to extend its lead to 11 points.  Old Westbury sliced Sage's lead to two points (65-63) off a 15-6 Panther run, capped by Nat Vaughan's three pointer with 9:05 showing on the second-half clock.  Andre Robinson's jumper with 8:50 remaining sparked a 17-0 run to extend Sage's lead to 19 points, in which Old Westbury missed 10 straight shots over that span.

Victor finished with a career-high 17 points (5-9 FG, 7-10 FT) to lead two other Panthers in double-digit scoring.  Reynaldo Walters scored 12 points (5-12 FG) and Jaquan Potter followed with 10 points (3-7 3FG).  Vaughan and Floyd Leroy each scored nine points off the bench while Vaughan added a season-high five assists.

Kai Deans led the way for Sage with 32 points (11-16 FG, 10-11 FT) and 10 rebounds.  Robinson went for 17 points (6-9 FG, 2-3 3FG), eight assists and two steals while Travis Gill added 15 points (5-10 FG, 3-5 3FG), four assists and three steals.

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 34.9 percent from the field (22-63), 42.9 percent from three-point range (12-28) and 71.4 percent from the free-throw line (15-21) while Sage hit 52.6 percent from the floor (30-57), 42.9 percent from beyond the arc (6-14) and 73.3 percent from the charity stripe (22-30).  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 38-37, scoring nine points off 19 offensive rebounds.  Sage scored 20 points off 16 Panther turnovers.
