@OW_Panthers Men’s Soccer tangles with Kean in season opener

Old Westbury heads to FDU-Florham for a non-conference showdown Saturday at 11 a.m.

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) The SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer team (0-1-0) opened its 2015 season with a 6-0 loss to the visiting Kean Cougars (1-0-0) Wednesday afternoon from Panther Park.

Old Westbury goalie Peter Sicardi made 11 saves and Jorge Rodriguez put up a team-leading two shots, with one landing on target.        

The Panthers fell behind right from the start as Kean's Sevag Kherlopian scored off a feed from Michael Vargas 2:54 into the match.  Alex Noriega sank a corner kick past Sicardi at the 17:01 mark to double the Cougars' advantage.  Carmine Colasurdo took a feed from Kherlopian and was able to get a shot past Sicardi to make it 3-0 heading into the half.

Vaughn Cuasno broke the second half scoring ice at 46:39 to extend Kean's lead to four.  Robert Barrera netted Kean's fifth goal at 52:36 to put the game away for the Cougars.  Joe Koetters closed out the scoring books at 86:42 to make it a 6-0 final. 

Kean held the edge in shots (34-5), shots on goal (17-2) and corner kicks (14-2). 

FDU-FLORHAM DEVILS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury travels to Madison, New Jersey to take on the FDU-Florham Devils in non-conference action Saturday at 11 a.m. from Robert T. Shields Field.
