Old Westbury is off to a 2-0 start in the Skyline Conference standings for the fourth time in program history

YONKERS, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer took advantage of an own-goal to move past the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons, 2-0, in Monday's Skyline Conference road matchup from Tibbets Brook Park.

Old Westbury (4-3-0, 2-0 Skyline) got on the board in the seventh minute when the own-goal occurred as a pass into the box was deflected by the Gryphons' (3-2-0, 1-2 Skyline) defense to give the Panthers an early 1-0 lead.

Old Westbury had plenty of chances over the next 38 minutes to score the insurance goal before the half, but had to settle for the 1-0 advantage heading into intermission.  Old Westbury held an 18-1 edge in shots in the opening frame, with the Gryphons' lone opportunity coming in the 23rd minute, when Sophia Spralja fired wide right.

Melissa Outsen tied a career-high with her team-leading third assist of the season when she found Michelle Ventimiglia in the 61st minute to double Old Westbury's advantage.  The insurance goal was Ventimiglia's second of the season and sixth of the senior's career.

Melissa Muller (3-3-0) collected her second-straight shutout in between the Panthers' sticks.  Addie Rosenberg (3-2-0) allowed both goals and made 17 saves in defeat for Sarah Lawrence.

Old Westbury finished with a dominant showing in shots (36-3), shots on goal (19-0) and corner kicks (10-1).

ST. JOSEPH'S (BROOKLYN) BEARS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns home to open a four-game homestand starting Friday (Sept. 25) with a Skyline Conference showdown against the St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) Bears at 4 p.m. from Panther Park.
