@OW_Panthers Women’s Volleyball tops Purchase at Skyline Conference tri-match

Old Westbury downed Purchase in four sets Saturday afternoon at Farmingdale State’s Skyline Conference tri-match

FARMINGDALE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball split a Skyline Conference tri-match Saturday hosted by Farmingdale State from Walter A. Lynch Sports Center.  The host's defeated Old Westbury (3-4, 1-1 Skyline) in three sets (25-7, 25-5, 25-11) before the Panthers bounced back to claim a 3-1 (25-18, 25-23, 23-25, 25-21) victory from the Purchase Panthers (0-7, 0-1 Skyline).   

The Rams (4-5, 2-0 Skyline) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before Gerlande Lucas and Olivia O'Keefe brought the Panthers within one.  Farmingdale State then used a 6-1 spurt to build a six-point cushion, followed by an 8-0 run to close out the opening set. 

With the match knotted at 1-1 in the second set, Farmingdale State scored nine unanswered points to go up 10-1.  Old Westbury answered with three-straight points before the Rams countered with a 15-1 scoring spree to close out the set.  

Old Westbury held its first lead of the match with a 2-0 advantage to start the third set.  The Rams fired back with a 7-1 run to grab hold of the set, and later used a 6-0 spurt to secure the victory.

Lucas and Rayn Brown led Old Westbury with two kills while Chelsey Hoffman distributed three assists and Shanayia Lloyd racked up six digs. 

Meagan Pisciotta's 15 assists captained the Rams on offense as Amanda Masson collected a match-high nine kills.

In the end, The Rams hit .403 to Old Westbury's -.126.  Farmingdale State also held a 22-2 edge in aces.  

Old Westbury built an early 7-1 lead in the first set and never looked back. 

Purchase took its first lead of the match in the second set after jumping out to a 1-0 advantage.  Both teams combined for five lead changes in the second stanza as Old Westbury used a key 4-0 run to go in front, 22-20. 

Down 10-5 in the third set, Purchase battled back with a 14-6 run to take a three-point lead.  Old Westbury took a late 23-21 lead, and Purchase answered with four-straight points to take set three.

Old Westbury secured the match victory in the fourth set with a late 8-0 surge for a 23-19 lead. 

Brown produced her fourth-career double-double to lead the Panthers, finishing with 10 kills and a career-best 21 digs.  Brianne Dorney led all players with five aces, while Lloyd followed with four, and Brown and Hoffman each added three.  Hoffman also contributed 25 assists, 14 digs and eight kills to register her first-career double-double.  Brittany Buchanan nailed down nine kills in 22 swings.

Julia Chirlin paced Purchase with a match-high 14 kills while Alex Lally dished out 26 aces.  Lillian Dixon scooped up 13 digs, followed by Logan Morrissey's nine. 

Old Westbury registered season-best efforts in aces (18), kills (39), assists (35), and digs (59).  The Panthers finished the match hitting .131 to .129 for Purchase.


MARITIME PRIVATEERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns home Sunday (Sept. 27) afternoon to take on the Maritime Privateers at 2 p.m. in Skyline Conference action from Clark Athletic Center.  Old Westbury will also play host to a pair of confernece matches earlier in the day, starting with Mount Saint Mary and St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) at 10 a.m., followed by Mount Saint Mary and Maritime at 12 p.m.
