GALLOWAY, NJ --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball opened the 2016-17 campaign with a 74-55 setback to the Stockton University Ospreys Saturday evening from The Sports Center in Galloway, New Jersey.  The Panthers and Ospreys last met March 3, 2013 when Old Westbury captured a 74-73 victory to win the 2013 ECAC Metro Region Championship.

Jamail Stanley sank a pair of free throws 1:45 in to tie the game at 2-2 for Old Westbury.  The Panthers missed their first five attempts from the field before Stephon Odle connected on a jumper with 15:49 remaining in the opening half to slice the deficit to one (6-5).  On the Panthers ensuing position, Stanley drilled a jumper 32 seconds later to give Old Westbury its lone lead of the game (7-6).  Tom Catanoso's 3-pointer with 14:56 left sparked a 12-0 Stockton run to grab an 18-7 advantage with 12:17 remaining.  Down by double digits, Stanley would score seven of Old Westbury's next 12 points as part of a 12-3 run to make it a 21-19 game.  Stockton used a 21-4 run from 8:22 to 2:22 to go up by 21 (44-23) before taking a 46-27 lead into the half.

Stanley Baker dropped in a layup with 17:16 showing on the second-half clock to pull the Panthers within 16 points (49-33).  Stockton extended its lead to as many as 27 points (66-39) with 7:39 remaining,

Stanley led all scorers with 19 points (6-of-13 FG, 7-of-7 FT) to go along with seven rebounds, one block and one steal in 23 minutes of action.  Terrin Roland added nine points off the bench while Odle followed with eight.  Bradley Eugene grabbed a career-best nine rebounds while Baker contributed seven boards (career-high), six points (tied career-high) and three blocks (career-high).   Lylle Ryals and Preston Powell both nabbed three steals.

Marcus Harmon paced Stockton with 14 points (4-of-9 3-FG), 13 rebounds and four assists.  Darius Jerkins chipped in with 15 points and 11 rebounds.  Khaliq Ford and Catanoso followed with 13 and 11 points, respectfully.

Old Westbury connected on 25.4 percent (17-of-67 FG) from the field, 4.3 percent (1-of-23 3FG) from three-point territory and 71.4 percent (20-of-28 FT) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Stockton hit on 39 percent (23-of-59 FG) from the floor, 46.4 percent (13-of-28 3FG) from beyond the arc and 57.7 (15-of-26 FT) from the charity stripe.  The Ospreys won the boards battle, 50-48, while Old Westbury scored six second-chance points off 15 offensive rebounds.  The Panthers held the advantage in steals (11-9) and scored 17 points off 17 Stockton turnovers.
