@OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball dismantles Purchase, 82-52

Old Westbury outscored Purchase by 27 points during a key third-quarter surge

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball cruised to its ninth-straight win with Saturday's 82-52 dismantling of the Purchase Panthers in Skyline Conference action inside Clark Athletic Center.  Old Westbury (18-3) improved to 11-1 in conference play while sending Purchase (1-19) to 1-12.

Both teams combined to shoot 5-of-32 from the field with 15 turnovers in a low scoring first period that saw a 6-6 game at the end of 10 minutes. 

Raven Pentz connected on a three pointer at 8:47 to put Old Westbury in front, 9-6, for its first lead of the game.  Moments later, Jasmine Robinson's layup put Old Westbury up for good, 11-10, with 7:38 remaining.  Old Westbury took a 20-16 lead into intermission.

After leading by just four points at halftime, Old Westbury used an 8-2 to run to build up a double-digit lead over the final 17:18.  Old Westbury outscored Purchase by 27 points (35-8) during a third quarter that saw the home team take a 33-point lead off a pair of made free throws by Olivia Ilardi. 

Kendra Jordan dropped in a layup with 2:26 remaining in the fourth to extend Old Westbury's lead to a game-high 39 points (74-35).  Purchase sliced the deficit to 29 points before Alexis Lopez netted Old Westbury's final seven points to close out the game.

Robinson poured in a game-high 17 points to go with three steals in leading Old Westbury.  Pentz followed with 15 points, six assists and two steals while Bridgid McNeill used 12 points and a career-high 14 rebounds (10 offensive) to record her first-career double-double.  Monique Joseph added seven points, 11 rebounds and three steals while Ruth Vargas chipped in with nine points and eight rebounds off the bench. 

Allison Haugh paced Purchase with 15 points and four steals.  Kristine Viven contributed 11 points while Danielle Holmes pulled down 11 rebounds. 
 
Old Westbury shot 36.5 percent (31-of-85) from the field, 16.7 percent (3-of-18) from three-point range and 54.8 percent (17-of-31) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Purchase hit on 30.8 percent (20-of-65) from the floor, 27.3 percent (3-of-11) from beyond the arc and 75 percent (9-of-12) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury collected its second-highest rebound total of the season to earn a +32 (69-37) rebounding margin, scoring 29 second-chance points off 35 offensive rebounds (tied season-high).  Old Westbury also held the advantage in assists (12-9), points in the paint (52-30) and bench scoring (36-13) while totaling 21 points off 31 Purchase turnovers. 

YESHIVA MACCABEES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury remains at home for Thursday's (Feb. 11) Skyline Conference matchup with the Yeshiva Maccabees at 8 p.m. inside Clark Athletic Center.  Old Westbury will look to complete the series sweep of the Maccabees after claiming an 80-47 road victory (Box Score) on December 10.
