Gameday Program

OLD WESTBURY, NY ---
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball closed out a three-game season series with the visiting Baruch Bearcats (6-9) Tuesday afternoon with a 2-1 setback in non-conference action from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.

Luca Altamirano (2-for-5, R) singled off Panther (11-6) starter Tyler Kapela (1-1, 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 3 K) to lead off the game.  After advancing two bases on a throwing error, Altamirano scored the game's initial run four batters later on a RBI single by Edwin Saint Hilaire.

Old Westbury threatened in the bottom of the first with Tommy Ziegen on third base.  Ziegen, who walked and stole second and third with one out, was left stranded following a strikeout and ground out to end the frame.

Baruch doubled its advantage in the fourth with John Paul Cattaro scoring on a Nicholas Calabrese sacrifice bunt for the 2-0 lead.

After Joey Walsh stranded three Panthers on base in the seventh, Kevin Lao lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score Ziegen to slice the deficit in half.  Sheridan then drew a walk to place runners on the corners for Paul Rapoli, who grounded into an inning ending double play heading into the top of the ninth.

Matthew Fazio picked up his first save of the year in relief of Bearcat starter Bryan Flannery (1-0, 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 5 K).

Reliever Nick Dorcean scattered one hit and fanned six batters in three innings in relief of Kapela before Ryan Mordecai closed out the ninth with two strikeouts.
