@OW_Panthers Baseball orchestrates late surge at Manhattanville

Dean Sheridan hit 2-for-5 to reach base safely for the 20th straight game

PURCHASE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball continued play on the road Wednesday, falling 11-8 in non-conference action against the Manhattanville Valiants in Purchase, New York.

Manhattanville (12-6) jumped on Panther (13-8) starter Trey Pizzutello (1-1, 3.2 IP, 11 R, 9 ER, 11 H, BB, 4 K) with a two-out RBI single by Jordanis Nunez (3-for-5, 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 SB) to score Robbie Lynch (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 SB, BB) for the first inning lead.
Pizzutello ran into tough luck in the second inning as the Panthers committed two costly errors that led to three more runs crossing the plate for the Valiants' 4-0 lead.

Old Westbury's defense failed Pizzutello in the third on a fielding error by first baseman Dean Sheridan (2-for-5, RBI, R, SB) that allowed Nunez to score from third.

Sheridan respond by with a single in the fourth to reach base for the 20th straight game.

The Valiants tacked on five more runs in the fourth to end Pizzutello's outing
Reliever Nick Dorcean took over and settled Manhattanville's bats over the next 2.1 innings of work.

Down 11-0, Old Westbury's offense erupted for six runs on seven hits off Valiant reliever Nick Simmons (0.1 IP, 6 R, BB) in the seventh inning.  J.J. Lindgren Jr. (2-for-5, 2 RBI, R) stroked a two-run single to score Louis Sileno (0-for-1, R, 2 BB) and Michael Cardino.  Jesse Russo (2-for-5, RBI, R), Joey Walsh, Tommy Ziegen (3-for-5, RBI, R, SB) and Sheridan all contributed RBI singles as part of the big inning.

Ziegen doubled to lead off the ninth.  Cardino stepped to the plate three batters later with the bases loaded to deliver a sacrifice fly to score Ziegen.  Paul Rapoli (4-for-5, RBI, R) would then single home Sheridan two batters later off reliever Dennis Berardi (2 IP, 2 R, 2 H, BB, 3 K) to make it a three-run game.  Berardi stranded two Panthers after striking out Lindgren to escape out of the jam.

Manhattanville starter Josh Moschetti (2-0) tossed six scoreless innings of six-hit ball to snag the win.

Old Westbury reliever Ryan Mordecai fired two innings of no-hit ball with three strikeouts.
