Old Westbury owned a 22-14 shot advantage in Wednesday’s Skyline Conference road battle

KINGS POINT, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer lost a heartbreaking 1-0 final to the first place United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners (4-3-2, 4-0-0 Skyline) Wednesday evening in Skyline Conference road action from Brooks Stadium in Kings Point, New York.

Merchant Marine put the pressure on early, firing the game's first three shots through five minutes of play.  Dominick Guidice then landed a shot on target to put Old Westbury (3-3-4, 1-1-1 Skyline) in the shot column in the eighth minute.  The Mariners got on the board in the 14th minute on an own goal as Eric Ragogna's pass back to goalie Mike Warren slipped through for the 1-0 lead.  Despite the unfortunate goal, Old Westbury controlled the half with the edge in shots (12-6), shots on goal (4-2) and corner kicks (4-1).

Old Westbury pressured Mariner goalie Cory Maier in the opening seven minutes of the second half with three shots.  The Panthers also misfired on seven more in the final half en route to holding the advantage in shots (22-14) and corner kicks (8-4).

Adan Velasquez paced the Panthers with six attempts while Guidice followed with five.

Warren (3-3-4) made six saves while Maier (4-3-2) stopped four shots.
