@OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball dominates St. Joseph’s (L.I.) for 95-34 Skyline win

Old Westbury returned back to its winning ways Saturday with its seventh victory in eight games

(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball led for the final 37:04 of play Saturday afternoon to collect a convincing 95-34 Skyline Conference home win from the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) Golden Eagles (4-11, 3-6 Skyline) inside Clark Athletic Center.

After St. Joseph's jumped ahead 4-2 for its lone lead of the game, Old Westbury (11-3, 5-3 Skyline) proceeded to put the game away with a 26-0 run as Charlotte Renker converted on a 3-point play to kick-start the spurt from 7:04 to 1:14.  Old Westbury scored 14 unanswered points to start the second quarter to lead by 38 (44-6) with six minutes left.  The Panthers closed out the final 4:35 with a 12-2 spurt to take a 56-11 lead into intermission.

Old Westbury shot 60 percent during the third quarter to build its lead up to 54 (77-23).  Old Westbury's lead eclipsed 60 points with 3:44 left as Alexis Hart sank a jumper to make it a 61-point game (93-29).  Tori Bellings later hit a free-throw to extend the advantage to a game-high 64 points (93-29) with 2:42 showing on the fourth-quarter clock.

The Panthers were led by Jasmine Robinson, who finished with a game-high 25 points (10-of-12 FG, 3-of-3 3FG) to go with five steals, five rebounds and four assists.  Bellings followed with 12 points (5-of-8 FG), six rebounds, four assists and four steals.  Davida Warren pulled-down a team-best seven rebounds to go along with 10 points while Ruth Vargas added 12 points (6-of-7 FG) and six rebounds.  Monique Joseph nabbed a career-high eight steals as Imani Lariosa totaled 10 points and four assists. 

Jackie Zizzo paced St. Joseph's with 17 points (5-of-13 3FG) and three steals.  Juliana Cintron-Leonardo scored eight points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 51.3 percent (39-of-76) from the field, 62.5 percent (5-of-8) from 3-point range and 66.7 percent (12-of-18) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, St. Joseph's hit on 21.7 percent (13-of-60) from the floor, 21.4 percent (6-of-28) from beyond the arc and 33.3 percent (2-of-6) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 52-38, scoring 21 second-chance points off 19 offensive rebounds.  The Panthers also held the advantage in steals (24-8) and assists (22-11) while scoring 44 points off 39 Golden Eagle turnovers.
