Jamail Stanley’s 11th double-double of the season paced Old Westbury to its fourth-straight win

BROOKLYN, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball closed out their non-conference slate Monday evening on the road by defeating the Medgar Evers College Cougars (3-13) 90-57 inside Cougars Cave.  The win was Old Westbury's fourth straight, and fifth in the last six games.

Both teams combined to change leads five time during the opening 12:54 until Preston Powell's 3-pointer put Old Westbury (9-7) ahead for good, 22-20.  Powell would then connect from downtown to ignite Old Westbury's 11-2 run from 5:27 to 2:03 to stretch the lead to double-digits (35-24).  Stanley Baker twice connected on jumpers in the final 1:08 to extend the lead to 13 before taking a 42-32 advantage into intermission.

The Panthers played with a double-digit lead for the final 21:43 of play as Stephon Odle's 3-pointer pushed the lead past 20 for good with 12:51 showing on the second-half clock.  Old Westbury put together a 23-5 run from 9:42 to 3:00 during which Ethan Bevan dropped in a layup with 3:39 left to extend the Panthers' lead to a game-high 40 points (90-50).

Jamail Stanley led all scorers with game-highs of 25 points (9-of-16 FG, 6-of-7 FT) and 15 rebounds (seven offensive) to go along with three assists, one block and one steal to record his 11th double-double of the season (24th career).  Lylle Ryals followed with 15 points (4-of-8 3FG), four assists, two steals and one block.  Powell (4-of-9 3FG) and Odle (4-of-5 3FG) each nabbed two steals while scoring 14 and 12 points, respectively.  Terrin Roland controlled the offense with a career-high 10 assists to go with two steals while Baker and Luckens Victor swatted away four and three shots, respectively.

Justin Sutton finished with 15 points (5-of-8 FG, 3-of-5 3FG), five rebounds and two steals to pace Medgar Evers.  Maurice Swaby II poured in 11 points and two steals.

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 44 percent (33-of-75) from the field, 40 percent (14-of-35) from 3-point range and 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Medgar Evers hit on 25.8 percent (17-of-66) from the floor, 19.2 percent (5-of-26) from beyond the arc and 69.2 percent (18-of-26) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 53-45, scoring 21 second-chance points off 16 offensive rebounds.  The Panthers also held the advantage in steals (10-9), blocks (10-6) and assists (23-9) while scoring 15 points off 20 Cougar turnovers.
