@OW_Panthers Men’s Soccer charges into postseason with 5-0 St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn) win

Old Westbury makes its second-straight Skyline Conference Championship appearance Saturday (Oct. 28)

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer closed out the regular season Wednesday afternoon with a 5-0 Skyline Conference home win over the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Bears (1-14-1, 0-9-0 Skyline) inside Panther Park.

Old Westbury (9-5-3, 5-3-1 Skyline) advances to the postseason play for the second-consecutive season and will return to action Saturday (Oct. 28) with first-round Skyline Conference Championship action on the road.  The fifth-seeded Panthers will take on the fourth-seeded SUNY Maritime Privateers (11-4-2, 5-3-1 Skyline) at 6 p.m. from Reinhart Field in Throggs Neck, New York.  In their lone matchup this season, Maritime prevailed with a 1-0 decision in Old Westbury on October 14.  The last time the two teams met in the postseason was in 2010, when Maritime came away with a 3-1 victory to win the Skyline Conference Championship at home.

Old Westbury wasted little time to set the tone as Dominick Guidice broke the scoring ice 9:03 in for the early advantage.  Jorey Garcia then scored his 13th goal of the year off a free kick in the 16th minute for the 2-0 lead.  Garcia then finished a run from Ronald Monge 35 seconds later to extend the lead to three.  The Panthers built a four-goal lead in the 36th minute with Garcia's third goal of the game to register his second-straight hat trick.

Kasey Espinoza scored in the 53rd minute for the second time in as many games to push Old Westbury's lead to five.

Mike Warren (9-5-3) started the game and made one save before Kevin Driscoll played the final 66 minutes to stop three shots to combine for Old Westbury's fifth shutout of the season.  Julian Rodriguez (0-7-1) turned away three first-half shots in defeat for St. Joseph's.

In the end, Old Westbury held the edge in shots (27-11), shots on goal (15-4) and corner kicks (3-2).
