@OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball dominates New Rochelle to improve to 8-0

Old Westbury returns home Saturday (Dec. 16) for a non-conference showdown versus New Jersey City University

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball put together a 75-48 wire-to-wire non-conference road win Tuesday evening over the College of New Rochelle Blue Angels (3-6) from Monroe College Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, New York.  With the win, Old Westbury improves to 8-0 on the season.

Charlotte Renker dropped in a layup and Destiny Marino connected from 3-point range to give Old Westbury the early 5-0 lead.  The Panthers outscored New Rochelle by 18 in the opening quarter to take a 23-5 lead heading into the second period.  Old Westbury's first-half advantage grew to 23 before New Rochelle trimmed its deficit to trail 41-19 at halftime.  

The Panthers played with a 20-point lead for the final 21:29 as Monique Joseph's layup 3:45 into second-half play built Old Westbury's lead to 28 (51-23).  Leading 59-32 at the end of three quarters, Old Westbury stretched its advantage to as many as 32 points (64-32) with 8:12 remaining off a jumper by Tori Bellings.

Joseph finished with 17 points (8-of-16 FG), six assists, six rebounds, five steals and one block to power Old Westbury.  Renker used 13 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks to notch her fourth double-double of the season (15th career).  Bridgid McNeill pulled down a season-high 13 rebounds (nine offensive) and swatted three shots (tied career-high).
 
Ashley Martin paced New Rochelle with 12 points (6-of-7 FT) and three blocks while Caitlin Harrison scored 11 (5-of-10 FG).

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 41.9 percent (31-of-74) from the field, 30 percent (3-of-10) from 3-point range and 41.7 percent (10-of-24) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, New Rochelle hit on 26.3 percent (15-of-57) from the floor, 20 percent (3-of-15) from beyond the arc and 71.4 percent (15-of-21) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 59-31, while scoring 25 second-chance points off 28 offensive rebounds. The Panthers converted 22 points off 22 Blue Angel turnovers.  Old Westbury led the way in assists (15-7), blocks (10-4), steals (12-8), fastbreak points (12-4), points in the paint (50-16) and bench points (28-17).

NEW JERSEY CITY UNIVERSITY GOTHIC KNIGHTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to campus Saturday (Dec. 16) for a non-conference showdown against the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights at 12 p.m. inside Clark Athletic Center.
