@OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball downs Yeshiva to notch 11th-straight win

Old Westbury cemented its 10-1 regular-season home record with Thursday’s 82-37 Skyline Conference triumph

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball closed out their regular-season home schedule extended its win streak to 11 with Thursday's 82-37 Skyline Conference win over the Yeshiva University Maccabees (3-19, 1-16 Skyline) inside Clark Athletic Center Center.  

With the game knotted at 2 with 9:12 remaining in the first quarter, Charlotte Renker's lay-in broke a tied game (2-2) to spark a 9-0 run for Old Westbury (21-3, 14-3 Skyline) to extend the lead for good (11-2).  Laura Betesh's layup helped Yeshiva slice the deficit to six (14-8) before Renker dropped in two points to ignite a 19-5 run from 5:22 to 1:49 to push Old Westbury's advantage to 20 (33-13).  Moments later, Yeshiva closed out the opening quarter with a 7-0 run to make it a 33-20 game. The Panthers outscored Yeshiva 13-5 in the second stanza to take a 46-25 lead into intermission.

Jasmine Robinson opened the third quarter with a layup to kickstart an 18-4 run from 9:44 to 3:11 for Old Westbury to grow its lead to 35 (64-29).  Yeshiva would score the next five points to send a 67-34 game into the final period.  Old Westbury pushed the lead to a game-high 45 points to settle the 82-37 final with a 16-3 spurt over the final 8:25.

Monique Joseph led all scorers with a career-high 17 points (7-of-10 FG, 3-of-4 FT) to go with six rebounds (four offensive) and four steals.  Renker contributed 14 points (5-of-9 FG, 4-of-4 FT), 11 rebounds and four blocks (tied career-high) to record her 10th double-double of the season.  Ruth Vargas added 14 points (6-of-11 FG) and six rebounds (four offensive).  Tori Bellings chipped in 10 points (5-of-8 FG) and six rebounds.  Jasmine Robinson dished out five assists and and nabbed four steals while Davida Warren grabbed 11 rebounds (five offensive).

Tess Blaustein paced Yeshiva with 13 points (5-of-12 FG) and a game-high five steals while Michal Alge added 13 points (4-of-8 FG), nine rebounds, three steals and two steals.

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 44.6 percent (33-of-74) from the field, 0-of-9 from 3-point range and 69.6 percent (16-of-23) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Yeshiva hit on 23.7 percent (14-of-59) from the floor, 15.8 percent (3-of-19) from beyond the arc and 37.5 percent (6-of-16) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 68-28, scoring 29 second-chance points off 31 offensive rebounds.  The Maccabees held the advantage in steals (14-12) while the Panthers held the edge in blocks (5-2) and steals (18-7).  Old Westbury scored 30 points off 27 Maccabee turnovers.

YESHIVA UNIVERSITY MACCABEES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury travels to Manhattan to close out the regular season Saturday (Feb. 18) with a Skyline Conference showdown against the Yeshiva University Maccabees at 8:30 p.m. inside ARC Arena at Baruch College.
