Old Westbury scored 32 runs behind solid pitching performances in Friday’s Skyline Conference doubleheader

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury softball (2-2, 2-2 Skyline) opened their home schedule Friday with convincing 24-0 and 8-0 Skyline Conference run-rule wins to sweep the Yeshiva University Maccabees (2-4, 0-2 Skyline) from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.

Game 1 (5 Inn.): Old Westbury 24, Yeshiva 0
Samantha Scharff (2-for-5, 5 RBI, 2 R, SB) scored Gabriella Valdes (3-for-3, 3 RBI, 3 R, 2 BB, SB) in the first inning with a single off Maccabee pitcher Elisa Alweis (L, 1-2; 4 IP, 24 R, 15 ER, 9 BB, 0 K)) to break the scoring ice.  Joshlyn Grant then doubled Old Westbury's advantage with a single to plate home Scharff.  Four batters later, Kaite Skelly stroked a RBI single to score Grant as Old Westbury scored five runs over the next four at-bats to take an 8-0 lead.

Lauren Bloom (2-for-4, 4 RBI, R, 2 2B) capped an 11-run inning in Old Westbury's second with a two-run double for the 19-0 lead.

Old Westbury scored three more runs in the third inning before Amanda Neenan (3-for-4, 4 R, 3 RBI, 2 BB) helped her own cause with a two-run home run over the right field fence to score Krysta Flareau (3-for-5, 4 R, RBI, SB) to settle the 24-0 final.

Neenan (W, 1-0, 2 BB) made her debut in the circle with eight strikeouts while scattering two hits to register the five-inning complete game shutout.

Game 2 (5 Inn.): Old Westbury 8, Yeshiva 0
Old Westbury broke a scoreless tie in the second with Flareau's RBI single to plate home Bloom for the 1-0 lead on Maccabee starter Samantha Cohen (L, 1-2; 4.2 IP, 11 H, 8 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, K).  Two batters later, Synthia Betances doubled Old Westbury's advantage with a RBI single to score Grant (2-for-3, 2 R).  Madelyn Bowen then made it a 4-0 game with a two-run ground rule double two batters later, before Otilia Bernal (2-for-2)  scored the Panthers' fifth run on a fielding error by third baseman Gabi Chutter.

Skelly and Valdes (2-for-2) provided RBI singles in the third to make it a 7-0 game.

Scharff hit a two-out walk-off double in the fifth to score Bowen for the game's eighth run.

Neenan (0 BB) scattered two hits and fanned two batters in two innings of work before Bloom (W, 1-1, 0 BB) struck out five to one-hit the Maccabees over the final three innings to secure her first-career win.
