@OW_Panthers Women’s Lacrosse rallies late against defending Skyline champs St. Joseph’s (L.I.)

Old Westbury closed out Wednesday’s Skyline Conference road battle with an 8-3 run

PATCHOGUE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse closed out Wednesday's road game with an 8-3 run but were unable to overcome an early deficit en route to falling 19-15 to the defending Skyline Conference champions St. Joseph's College (L.I.) Golden Eagles (3-8, 2-1 Skyline) in Patchogue, New York.

St. Joseph's took an early lead and never looked back as Nicole Stoppelli broke the scoring ice 1:34 in to kick-start a 5-0 Golden Eagle run.  Natasha Treuman answered for Old Westbury (2-7, 1-1 Skyline) with three of the Panthers' five goals during a 7:50 stretch to tie the game (5-5).  Sara Bey handed out her second assist of the game with 5:39 left as Danielle Weir's goal helped Old Westbury pull within one (7-6).  St. Joseph's added three more first-half goals to take a 10-6 lead into intermission.

The Golden Eagles continued their run by scoring four-straight goals to open second-half play to push the lead to eight (14-6).  Taylor Guarneri's goal at 24:17 ended the run just before Dianna Johnston and Brooke Kreuscher scored back-to-back goals to extend the Golden Eagle lead to a game-high nine goals (16-7).  Bey netted two goals and assisted on one during Old Westbury's 6-0 spurt that made it a 16-13 game with 8:57 showing on the clock.  St. Joseph's tacked on three insurance goals prior to Bey scoring two more in the final 1:14 to settle the 19-15 final.

Bey finished with eight points (five goals, three assists), four draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls in leading the Panthers.  Treuman followed with four goals and five draw controls.  Weir and Halle Johnson both chipped in with two goals.  Edania Martinez caused three of the team's eight turnovers.  Ashley Gugliuzzo (1-8) made 13 saves in defeat for Old Westbury.

Kreuscher paced St. Joseph's with five goals including the game-winning tally with 22:31 left in the second half.  Stoppelli added four goals while Kristin Carroll followed with three.  Lindsay Ramos stopped 10 shots to secure the Golden Eagles' victory.
