@OW_Panthers Men’s Soccer closes out road trip at NYU

Old Westbury concluded its three-game road trip Tuesday against NYU

RIVERDALE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer closed out its three-game non-conference road trip to start the season Tuesday evening with a 3-1 setback to the New York University Violets (3-1-0) from Gaelic Park in Riverdale, New York.

The Violets struck first 9:06 in as Owen Smith put away a deflected Pedro Goldberg shot past Old Westbury (1-2-0) goalie Mike Warren (1-2-1) for the early 1-0 lead.

With NYU leading 1-0 at the conclusion of the first half, the Violets doubled their advantage in the 61st minute with a penalty kick by Ricardo Mitrano for the two-goal cushion.  Old Westbury answered in the 65th minute to cut its deficit in half.  Mike Rodrigues capitalized on a bad clear in the NYU backfield by firing a laser from the top of the box past Grant Engel (3-0-1) to make it a 2-1 game.  Richie Rambarran fed Maxi Rodriguez 3:35 later to settle the 3-1 final.

Warren finished with 10 saves while Engel made three stops to secure NYU's win.

In the end, NYU held the advantage in shots (18-9), shots on goal (13-4) and corner kicks (7-6).

KEAN UNIVERSITY COUGARS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS:  Old Westbury (1-2-0) will host the Kean University Cougars (2-1-0) on Thursday (Sept. 14) for its home opener at 4 p.m. in non-conference action from Panther Park.
