@OW_Panthers Women’s Volleyball tangles with Sarah Lawrence and New Jersey City

Old Westbury returns home Friday (Sept. 29) to host Cedar Crest College and Purchase College

BRONXVILLE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball traveled to Sarah Lawrence College Saturday afternoon for a non-conference tri-match inside Campbell Sports Center.  Old Westbury (7-4) opened with a five-set setback (25-21, 19-25, 26-24, 15-25, 9-15) to the host Gryphons (6-5) before a three-set loss (18-25, 20-25, 24-26) to the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights (5-5).

Daesha Garrison paced the Panthers with a career-high eight kills and four aces (tied career-high).  Nikia Gardon followed with six kills while Jazmine Ortiz and Marie McKenzie nailed down five apiece.  Ortiz also served a career-best four aces.  Kyraleigh Zinnel's 15 assists moved the offense and Sofia Goris' match-high 19 digs paced the Panthers on defense.  

Melanie Coleman logged game highs of 13 kills and 10 aces to lead Sarah Lawrence.  Lauren Kilroy's 26 assists captained the offense while Camryn Sanchez added 13 digs on defense.  

Old Westbury opened the day hitting a match-high .238 to take the first set over Sarah Lawrence.  Sarah Lawrence improved its hitting to finish the match with a .070 attacking percentage compared to Old Westbury's .009.  The Gryphons also held the advantage in aces (25-14), kills (35-34) and assists (27-26) while Old Westbury held the edge in blocks (4-3) and digs (47-39).   

Against New Jersey City, Old Westbury had its best hitting set of the match at .118 while New Jersey City continued to improve through three sets to finish at .120.  The Gothic Knights finished the match holding the advantage in hitting percentage (.120-.067), kills (29-18), aces (12-8), blocks (5-2), assists (25-15) and digs (23-22).     

Ortiz led Old Westbury with five kills on 10 swings as Sidasia Johnson followed with four kills.  Zinnel, Kemari Best and Kristin Grieshaber all served two aces.  Grieshaber dished out nine assists and Best scooped five digs.

New Jersey City was led by Rachel McIntrye's 23 assists, Nadia Montgomery's seven kills, Kayla Clarke's four aces, and Amber O'Donnell's seven digs.  


CEDAR CREST COLLEGE FALCONS AND PURCHASE COLLEGE PANTHERS UP NEXT FOR OLD WESTBURY: Old Westbury returns home for Friday's (Sept. 29) non-conference tri-match against the Cedar Crest College Falcons at 1 p.m. before closing out against the Purchase College Panthers at 5 p.m. inside Clark Athletic Center.
