OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball worked their way back to .500 in Skyline Conference play Saturday afternoon with a 74-63 win at home over the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Bears (7-9, 6-5 Skyline) inside Clark Athletic Center. Old Westbury (5-8, 4-4 Skyline) played with a double-digit lead for the final 18:09 to extend its head-to-head win streak against St. Joseph's to five.

After both teams traded leads in the early goings, Old Westbury went up by 10 points (18-8) as Yancy Uylsse tallied six points in an 11-0 Panther run. St. Joseph's answered with five-straight points to slice its deficit to five (18-13) with 7:49 left in the half. Old Westbury then converted on four of its next six possessions to build a 14-point lead (29-15) as Brandon Thomson's 3-pointer capped an 11-2 Panther run. The Bears pulled within nine points (38-29) at the half by outscoring Old Westbury 14-9 over the final 4:12. Old Westbury's defense limited St. Joseph's to just 2-of-18 shooting from long distance in the opening 20 minutes.

Old Westbury went on a 19-6 scoring spree from 18:09 to 12:48 as Thomson, Preston Powell and David Rodriguez connected from deep to increase the lead to 22 (61-39). After Alan McDonald's layup extended Old Westbury's lead to a game-high 24 points (65-41) with 10:57 remaining on the second-half clock, St. Joseph's scored 13-straight points to chop its deficit to 11 points (65-44).

Ulysse posted his first-career double-double with a career-high 23 points (9-of-9 FG, 4-of-4 FT) and 17 rebounds (11 offensive) to pace Old Westbury to victory. Ulysse also added two blocks and two steals to his statline. Rodriguez poured in a career-best 15 points (6-of-10 FG, 3-of-6 3FG) while Terrin Roland followed with 12 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and a game-high four steals. Thomson chipped in with eight points (2-of-4 3FG) and seven rebounds.

Stephane Etheart dropped 20 points (10-of-20 FG), 15 rebounds, three blocks and two steals to lead St. Joseph's.

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 41.8 percent (28-of-67) from the field, 39.1 percent (9-of-23) from 3-point range and 81.8 percent (9-of-11) from the free-throw line. By comparison, St. Joseph's hit on 29.8 percent (25-of-84) from the floor, 10.5 percent (4-of-38) from beyond the arc and 75 percent (9-of-12) from the charity stripe. Old Westbury won the boards battle, 53-49, as St. Joseph's scored 22 second-chance points off 25 offensive rebounds. The Panthers converted 16 Bear turnovers into 22 points and held the advantage in assists (19-15), bench points (19-10) and fastbreak points (14-0). The Bears outplayed the Panthers in blocks (5-4), points in the paint (38-34). Both teams drew even in steals (11-11).
