THROGGS NECK, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer battled tough but fell 1-0 in overtime to the top-seeded Maritime College Privateers (13-3-0, 6-1-0 Skyline) in Skyline Conference road action from Reinhart Field in Throggs Neck, New York. Old Westbury's (5-5-4, 1-1-4 Skyline) seven-game unbeaten streak has been snapped and are now 2-4-1 against the Privateers dating back to 2013.

Parker Gullt tested the Panther defense 4:06 into the opening half before Robson Point Du Jour put Old Westbury in the shot column 4:10 later. The Panthers continued its offensive attack as Alexander Routledge, Ronald Monge and Peter Young pressured the Privateer defense in the 10th, 16th and 17th minute, respectively. Panther goalie Mike Warren (5-5-4) swatted away Anthony Sblendorio's shot in the 22nd minute before Edens Arvil attempted to put one past Privateer goalie Mike Rodriguez (13-3-0) in the 32nd minute. Sblendorio (35th minute) and James Roland (39th minute) helped Maritime secure the shot advantage (8-6) and send the scoreless first-half to intermission.

Old Westbury came out strong after the break as Routledge fired a shot that went high in the 48th minute. In the 56th minute of action the Panthers had an opportunity to cash in on a corner kick by Monge but could not convert. The shooting attack continued for Old Westbury as Routledge fired another shot over the net at the 58:27 mark in the game. Just 47 seconds later, Young also took a shot that went wide right of the goal. Warren made two consecutive key stops within 35 seconds of each other (78:50 and 79:25) including an attempt by Chris Tavernese followed by a Sblendorio header to send the match to Old Westbury's fifth overtime battle on the season.

In the 99th minute, Neil Dillon crossed the loose ball in the box to Anthony Sblendorio as he headed home the golden goal into an empty net to settle the 1-0 final.

Warren recorded six saves in 98:59 minutes in goal as Rodriguez stopped four shots to claim the clean sheet.

In the end, both teams were even in shots (14-14) as Maritime led the way in shots on goal (7-4) and corner kicks (4-2). Routledge led Old Westbury's attack with four shots.

SARAH LAWRENCE COLLEGE GRYPHONS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury continues its six-game road trip Tuesday (Oct. 16) with a Skyline Conference showdown against the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons (1-11-0, 1-5-0 Skyline) at 7 p.m. from Fleming Field in Yonkers, New York. Dating back to 2013, the Panthers have won all five matchups against the Gryphons.
