@OW_Panthers Women’s Volleyball tops Sarah Lawrence and Yeshiva to secure Skyline sweep

Old Westbury returns home Tuesday (Oct. 9) for a Skyline Conference Dig Pink matchup against Farmingdale State College

BRONXVILLE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball traveled Sunday to Bronxville, New York for a Skyline Conference tri-match against the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons (3-8, 0-3 Skyline) and Yeshiva University Maccabees (1-4, 0-1 Skyline) from Campbell Sports Center.  The Panthers (4-12, 3-2 Skyline) opened with a 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 25-15) win over the host Gryphons before posting a three-set sweep (25-6, 25-7, 25-15) of Yeshiva. Old Westbury snapped a four-game head-to-head losing streak against Sarah Lawrence while extending its winning streak to four versus the Maccabees.

The Panthers closed out the fourth set by hitting .231 to attack at a .168 rate against the Gryphons.  Sarah Lawrence hit just .064 on the match as Old Westbury dominated in kills (35-30), aces (19-16), blocks (3-0) and digs (48-42).  Both teams totaled 27 assists.

Joelle Desrosiers hit .565 with 14 kills on 23 swings, four aces (career high) and one solo block to pace Old Westbury.  Kryaleigh Zinnel had 26 assists (career high), 12 digs and six aces to register her 14th-career double-double (seventh of season).  Kristin Grieshaber served five aces and nailed down seven kills. Daesha Garrison also had seven kills while Sofia Goris scooped 15 digs.

Melanie Coleman tallied a game-high 17 kills as Isabel Pecora's 21 assists moved Sarah Lawrence's offense.  Pecora added 13 digs and four aces to her statline.

Old Westbury posted a match-high .297 hitting percentage in the deciding set to attack at .279 for the Yeshiva match.  The Panthers limited Yeshiva's hitting to -.103 while holding the advantage in kills (33-6), aces (23-1), assists (23-6) and digs (21-18).  Yeshiva finished with a 4-1 blocking edge. The 23 aces were a season best for Old Westbury.

Derosiers scored a team-leading 13 points to hit .571 with nine kills, three aces and one solo block.  Zinnel followed with 11 points on five aces, six kills and 11 assists. Garrison served a career-best six aces while Goris had five.  Grieshaber contributed 11 assists, seven kills and three aces to the win.

Tehilla Teigman paced Yeshiva with three kills and 2.5 blocks while Kayla Gross served their lone ace.

FARMINGDALE STATE COLLEGE RAMS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns home Tuesday (Oct. 9) evening for a Skyline Conference Dig Pink showdown with the Farmingdale State College Rams (6-16, 3-0 Skyline) at 6 p.m inside Clark Athletic Center.  The Panthers will look for their first win against the Rams since 2011.
