@OW_Panthers Women’s basketball remains undefeated with Skyline-opening win over St. Joseph’s (L.I.)

Old Westbury concludes its three-game homestand Tuesday (Dec. 4) with a Skyline Conference matchup against Farmingdale State College

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball opened Skyline Conference play Saturday afternoon with an 88-47 victory over the St. Joseph's (L.I.) College Golden Eagles (2-6, 1-1 Skyline) inside Clark Athletic Center.  The Panthers (6-0, 1-0 Skyline) are unbeaten through six games for the second-consecutive season while winning their last nine matchups against St. Joseph's dating back to the 2014-15 campaign.

Alexis Lopez ignited a 7-0 Panther run to start the game with a three pointer 15 seconds in to give Old Westbury the lead for good.  Paige Jelinek's layup with 2:34 remaining in the quarter gave Old Westbury its first double-digit advantage, 15-4. Juliana Cintron-Leonardo capped a 7-2 run with a three pointer to trim the Golden Eagles' deficit to six (17-11) heading into the second period.  Charlotte Renker's layup with 6:33 remaining in the half put Old Westbury ahead by double-digits (24-14) for good. Old Westbury went on a 14-3 scoring spree over the final 5:17 to lead 43-19 at intermission.

Old Westbury picked up where it left off as the 20-point lead blossomed to 30 with Davida Warren's layup 1:07 into second-half action.  Playing with a 30-point advantage for the final 16:58, La'Niya Clark's layup with 46 seconds left stretched lead to a game-high 45 points (88-43).

Monique Joseph led the Panthers to victory with 19 points, eight rebounds and five steals.  Warren added 15 points and eight rebounds while Renker used 10 points (5-of-8 FG), 18 rebounds and two blocks to register her 32nd-career double-double (fourth of season).  Tori Bellings dished out a career-best 11 assists to go with three steals and a block. Lopez, Jelinek and Alessia Drevnyak each scored nine points while Clark chipped in with eight points and six assists.  

Alyssa Signor poured in 18 points to pace St. Joseph's.  Cintron-Leonardo grabbed a team-leading nine rebounds.

Old Westbury fired away at 50.7 percent (35-of-69) from the field, 38.5 percent (5-of-13) from three-point range and 81.3 percent (13-of-16) from the free-throw line.  St. Joseph's was limited to just 26.9 percent (15-of-52) from the floor, 15.4 percent (2-of-13) from beyond the arc and 63 percent (17-of-27) from the charity stripe. The Panthers finished with a +36 rebounding margin (58-22) while scoring 20 second-chance points off 22 offensive rebounds.  Old Westbury also netted 26 points off 17 turnovers while holding the advantage in steals (12-7), blocks (5-2), assists (24-6), fast-break points (35-3), points in the paint (52-10) and bench scoring (28-6).

TOYS FOR TOTS WHITE OUT GAME VERSUS FARMINGDALE STATE COLLEGE RAMS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS:Old Westbury closes out its three-game homestand Tuesday (Dec. 4) versus the Farmingdale State College Rams (0-4, 0-1 Skyline) at 7 p.m. inside Clark Athletic Center.  The Panthers are 7-0 against Farmingdale State since the 2015-16 season.

Old Westbury will be handing out limited edition t-shirts as part of Tuesday's "White Out" inside Clark Athletic Center to the first 300 spectators.  Fans are encouraged to help less fortunate children this holiday season by contributing a new, unwrapped toy during our eighth-annual Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Toys for Tots drive.  Fans can drop donations in the marked "Toys for Tots" bin at the entrance to Clark Athletic Center prior to each December home game. Admission is $3 or a new, unwrapped toy, and students are free with school ID.
