Old Westbury plays in its second NCAA Tournament in three years

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball will travel Friday (Mar. 2) to Montclair, New Jersey as the Panthers return to the NCAA Division III Championship for the second time in three seasons.

Montclair State University (23-3) will play host for first-and-second round action inside Panzer Athletic Center. Old Westbury (23-3) will take on the host Red Hawks at 7 p.m. in first-round action Friday. Old Westbury captured its second Skyline Conference title to earn the league's automatic bid by defeating Mount Saint Mary College 53-47 on February 24. Advancing to the tournament for the ninth time in program history, Montclair State collected its sixth-straight NJAC title with a 58-51 win over The College of New Jersey on February 23.

The Albright College Lions (20-7) will open play Friday at 5 p.m. versus Gettysburg College Bullets (25-2). Albright earned an at-large bid for the third-straight year after falling in the MAC Commonwealth Championship game to Messiah College 62-43 on Saturday. Gettysburg defeated Haverford College 44-35 on Saturday to win the Centennial Conference Championship. The Bullets make their sixth trip to the NCAA Tournament (first since 2013).

The winner of each first-round contest would move on to a second-round game at 5 p.m. on Saturday (Mar. 3). The cost of admission for games will be $7, and $4 for visiting students/senior citizens. Fans will be able to purchase tickets one hour prior to game time.

The NCAA Division III women's basketball tournament features a 64-team field with 44 automatic bids, and 20 at-large spots. Second-round winners will advance to one of four sectional sites March 9-10. Winners of the four sectional sites will advance to the national semifinals March 16-17. All games, except the semifinals and final, will be played on the campuses of competing institutions. The semifinals will be conducted at Mayo Civic Center in Rochester, Minnesota, hosted by Saint Mary's University of Minnesota.
