Old Westbury continues play Tuesday (Mar. 20) at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic against Plymouth State University

FORT MYERS, FL --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball dropped a 14-8 non-conference decision to the #21 Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays (7-6) Monday afternoon at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic from Terry Park Sports Complex No. 2 in Fort Myers, Florida.

Old Westbury (4-4-1) starter John Hill (L, 0-1, 3.2 IP, 4 H, 8 R, 5 ER, 7 BB, 3 K) received run support early with John Condon (3-for-5, 3 RBI) slapping a two-out RBI single to left field to score John Fogarty for the 1-0 lead.  Fogarty reach base with a double to keep the opening inning alive.

The Panthers tacked on two unearned in the second frame to take a 3-0 lead on Blue Jay starter Nick Burns (W, 1-0, 7 H, 3 R, ER, 4 K).  Jonathan Dastagirzada (2-for-4, R, 2B) singled to lead off the inning, and after a two-base error by third baseman Mike Smith (3-for-5, R, 4 RBI) sent him to third, David Hawley lifted a sacrifice fly out to right field to double Old Westbury's advantage.  Blue Jay second baseman Mike Eberle (2-for-4, R) then committed their second miscue of the inning that allowed Joshua Cruz (0-for-3, 2 R, BB) to score for the 3-0 lead.  

Tim Kutcher (2-for-3, R, 2 SB) put Johns Hopkins on the board in the second with a RBI single to score Austin Sacks for the unearned run on Hill.   

Mike Ainsworth (1-for-3, 3 R, 2 RBI) clubbed a two-run triple to ignite a four-run Blue Jay third inning to take a 5-3 lead.  

Johns Hopkins went up 8-3 by scoring three runs on two hits in the fourth inning to end Hill's day.

The Blue Jays scored three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings off relievers CJ Pasqueralli and Chris Sanicola to expand their lead to eight (11-3).  Eberle singled home Sacks in the fifth inning off Pasqueralli for what proved to be the game-winning run. 

Johns Hopkins added single runs in each of the sixth, seventh and eighth frames.  

The Panthers scored twice in the eighth as Nic Labiento kicked off the inning with a walk and crossed the plate with Tyler Roberts on a Shaun Kaminski single up the middle to slash the deficit to eight (13-5).  

Trailing 14-5 with two outs in the top of the ninth, Condon knocked in two runs with a single followed by a Peter Capel (2-for-5) RBI single to score Tom Macri to settle the 14-8 final.  

PLYMOUTH STATE UNIVERSITY PANTHERS UP NEXT FOR OLD WESTBURY: Old Westbury (4-4-1) continues play Wednesday (Mar. 21) at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic against the Plymouth State University Panthers at 3 p.m. from Lee County Player Development Complex No. 3.
