Women’s Volleyball rallies late in five-set thriller at Maritime

Old Westbury will close out its non-conference slate Friday (Oct. 25) at City College of New York

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball rallied late in thrilling fashion to capture a five-set (18-25, 19-25, 28-26, 25-20, 17-15) Skyline Conference road victory Wednesday evening over the Maritime College Privateers (3-20, 1-9 Skyline) inside Riesenberg Gymnasium in Throggs Neck, New York.
 
Part of their three-straight set rally, Old Westbury (8-10, 3-6 Skyline) put together their finest hitting set in the third stanza to attack at a rate of .216 before finishing the match at .135.  Maritime finished the match hitting .124 while holding the advantage in kills (57-51) and assists (53-49).  Both teams tallied 88 digs as the Panthers held the edge in points (71-69), aces (9-8) and blocks (11-4).
 
Joelle Desrosiers led the way for Old Westbury with career bests of 24 kills and 21 digs to post her second-career double-double.  Daesha Garrison followed with of personal bests 17 kills and seven blocks.  Ally Parker directed the Panther offense with a career-high 49 assists to go with four aces while Hillary Bennett scooped up a match-high 27 digs to anchor the team's defense. Monica Crespo and Amanda Neenan chipped in with 17 and 16 digs, respectively.
 
Erica Pagano and Abby Steele both nailed down 17 kills to pace Maritime. Celyna Custodio contributed 11 kills while Erika Kirchner dished out 45 assists.  Abby Solomos added 22 digs and three aces.

Old Westbury will close out its non-conference slate Friday (Oct. 25) on the road against the City College of New York Beavers at 7 p.m. inside Nat Holman Gymnasium in Manhattan.
