SCRANTON, Pa. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball held on to beat Stevenson University Mustangs (3-3) Saturday afternoon in the consolation game of the Holiday Inn Express Electric City Classic hosted by Marywood University with a 74-70 triumph from Insalaco Arena in Scranton, Pennsylvania.   With the win, Old Westbury moves to a 1-3 overall mark.

Pedro Marquez averaged 16.5 points (83.3% FT), 7.0 assists, 3.0 steals and 2.0 rebounds in two games to be recognized as a member of the all-tournament team.

Both teams battled for the advantage in the opening 6:26 as Charles Wingate knocked down a jumper for Old Westbury's brief two-point lead, 16-14 with 13:09 remaining.  Norman Hughes connected from deep at 13:09 to ignite a 19-6 run for Stevenson to claim the double-digit lead, 33-22. The Mustangs grew its lead to a game-high 13 points (43-30) over the next 4:03 capped by Mark Terrell's layup.  Wingate closed out the first-half scoring with a free throw for Panthers to send the 46-34 game into the break.

Stevenson built its 13-point cushion again off of Hughes' triple with 18:06 showing on the second-half clock.  Old Westbury responded with a Pierrce Perry layup that kickstarted a 25-6 run from 17:49 to 9:22 to regain and extend the lead to six, 61-55.  The Mustang put together an 8-3 spurt to get in as close as one, 64-63, before the Panthers outscored Stevenson 10-7 over the remaining 6:02 to settle the 74-70 final.

Wingate led all scorers with a career-best 22 points (8-of-13 FG, 3-of-5 3FG, 3-of-4 FT) to go along with five rebounds, two assists and two steals.  Cameron Winston followed with 16 points and three steals while Marquez chipped in with 14 points and five assists.

Terrell finished with 20 points (6-of-7 FG, 8-of-10 FT) and nine rebounds to pace Stevenson while Hughes contributed 17 points.

In the end, Old Westbury shot 43.3 percent (26-of-60) from the field, 30.4 percent (7-of-23) from three-point range and 62.5 percent (15-of-24) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Stevenson hit on 45.8 percent (22-of-48) from the floor, 35.7 percent (10-of-28) from beyond the arc and 80 percent (16-of-20) from the charity stripe.  Stevenson won the slim boards battle, 33-32, while Old Westbury scored 17 second-chance points off 14 offensive rebounds.
