NEWBURGH, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse snapped a six-game losing streak Wednesday evening in Newburgh, New York with a Skyline Conference opening 17-13 road triumph against the Mount Saint Mary College Knights (0-7, 0-1 Skyline) from Kaplan Field. The Panthers (2-7, 1-0 Skyline) move to 3-4 all-time versus the Knights.

Mount Saint Mary broke the scoring ice 1:30 into the opening half with back-to-back goals for the early 2-0 lead. Old Westbury responded with five-straight goals over the next 5:02 on Knight goalie Jackie Finkel, highlighted by Hope Matthews' third-career hat trick, to take the 5-2 lead. The Knights used a brief 4-2 spurt to pull within one (7-6) with 12:57 remaining in the first half. Yaritza Caraballo slipped her third tally past goalie Grace Monahan (0-1) at 8:52 to register her first-career hat trick. Natasha Treuman found the back of the net 26 seconds later to extend Old Westbury's lead to three (9-6). Megan Shalvey assisted on Providence Gilkey's goal before scoring on her own over the final 2:55 to trail 9-8 at the break.

Courtney Condron put the equalizer (9-9) past Panther goalie Tazmeya Allen (2-7) to open the second-half scoring. Treuman scored five second-half goals, including her fifth-career game-winning goal at 14:53, to ignite an 8-2 Panther run and build a six-goal cushion (17-11). Shalvey scored two goals in the final 1:11 to settle the 17-13 decision.

Allen made eight saves to secure Old Westbury's win as Finkel stopped three shots and Monahan sent away six attempts in defeat for Mount Saint Mary.

The Panthers tied a program record with 23 draw controls compared to the Knights' nine while also finishing with the advantage in shots (31-26). Mount Saint Mary led the way in ground balls (21-14) and caused turnovers (8-7).

In addition to scoring a game-high six goals and notching her 32nd-career hat trick, Treuman controlled eight draws and scooped up four ground balls. Matthews followed with career highs of eight draw controls and four goals.

Shalvey and Condron finished with three goals while Gilkey, Nicole Cervone, and Annie Dolan, followed with two goals apiece for Mount Saint Mary.

MARITIME COLLEGE PRIVATEERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury concludes its five-game road trip Saturday (Apr. 6) with a Skyline Conference showdown against the Maritime College Privateers (4-3, 0-1 Skyline) at 1 p.m. from Reinhart Field in Throggs Neck, New York, part of NCAA Division III Week. The Panthers enter Saturday's matchup with a 4-2 all-time mark against the Privateers.
