Pedroza leads Women’s Soccer in Skyline duel at St. Joseph’s (L.I.)

Old Westbury returns to campus Saturday (Sept. 28) for a non-conference showdown against John Jay College

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer faced a 5-1 setback Wednesday evening to the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) Golden Eagles (5-3-1, 3-0-0 Skyline) in Skyline Conference road action from Danzi Stadium in Patchogue, New York.

The Golden Eagles opened the scoring 1:36 in as Amanda Fabris buried Abbey Curcio's feed outside the box past Panther goalie Yakeline Umanzor (4-2-0) for the early 1-0 lead.  Old Westbury (5-3-0, 1-1-0 Skyline) broke through with the equalizer off the boot of Jessica Pedroza in the 14th minute.  Umanzor conceived the game-winning goal in the 20th minute with a tally by Savannah McMaster off a Christina Gagliardi cross for the 2-1 lead before Gagliardi found the back of the net in the 32nd minute to send the 3-1 game into intermission.

St. Joseph's tacked on two second-half goals courtesy of Gagliardi back-to-back goals to complete her hat trick in the 54th and 85th minutes to settle the 5-1 final.

Umanzor totaled five saves in 72:09 minutes in net before Moira Nolan surrendered one goal and sent away one shot in 17:51 minutes of action.  Juliana Cintron-Leonardo made three saves to secure the victory for St. Joseph's.

In the end, St. Joseph's held the advantage in shots (18-5), shots on target (11-4) and corner kicks (4-1).
