RIVERDALE, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball extended its win streak to four Tuesday evening by claiming a 89-84 triumph over the College of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins (4-8, 1-2 Skyline) in Skyline Conference road action inside Peter Jay Sharp Center in Riverdale, New York. The victory helps the Panthers (8-6, 4-1 Skyline) improve to a 11-5 mark against the Dolphins since the 2012-13 season.
Mount Saint Vincent put together an 15-5 run in the game's opening 4:47 for the team-high 10-point lead. Justin Alleyne-Washington laid in two for the Panthers to respond with a 16-7 spurt from 14:53 to 10:54 to close the gap to one, 22-21. The Dolphins remained in control over the next 4:47 using a 15-9 run to build the seven-point cushion, 37-30. Old Westbury then chipped away at the deficit with a much needed 17-6 run in the remaining 5:21 of the first-half, headlined by Charles Wingate's seven points, to send the 47-43 game into intermission.
Pierrce Perry knocked down a three-pointer 19 seconds into second-half play for Old Westbury to outscore Mount Saint Vincent 20-12 and extend its lead to a game-high 12 points, 67-55, with 12:13 left. Raiquis Harris scored eight points as part of Mount Saint Vincent's 12-4 run over the next 4:53 to make it a two possession game, 71-67. Alleyne-Washington scored six-straight points to push Old Westbury's lead back up to double-digits (77-67), with 6:05 showing on the second-half clock. Harris went for seven points during the 11-1 Dolphin run over the span of 2:27 to make it a 78-all game. Old Westbury stayed in the driver's seat in the remaining 2:04 as Pedro Marquez connected from deep to ignite a 11-6 run to settle the 89-84 final.
Alleyne-Washington finished with 25 points (10-of-19 FG, 4-of-6 FT), five steals and three rebounds to lead Old Westbury. Wingate followed with 21 points (7-of-14 FG, 4-of-6 FT), seven assists (career-best) and five steals. Marquez chipped in with 17 points, six assists and three steals. Perry added 15 points (5-of-8 FG, 2-of-2 3FG, 3-of-5 FT) and a career-best 14 rebounds to post his fourth-career double-double off the bench while Jordan Johnson-Rader poured in 10 points (5-of-5 FG) and pulled down eight rebounds.
Harris led all scorers with 27 points (10-of-21 FG, 5-of-6 FT) and three steals to pace Mount Saint Vincent. Kalos Evans contributed 21 points (9-of-13 FG) while Mamadou Mariko grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Panthers shot 52.3 percent (34-of-65) from the field, 38.9 percent (7-of-18) from three-point territory and 56 percent (14-of-25) from the free-throw line. The Dolphins connected on 52.4 percent (33-of-63) from the floor, 33.3 percent (7-of-21) from beyond the arc and 61.1 percent (11-of-18) from the charity stripe. Old Westbury won the boards battle, 35-34, while Mount Saint Vincent scored 12 second-chance points off 10 offensive rebounds. Old Westbury led the way in assists (17-9), steals (14-12) and points in the paint (44-42). Mount Saint Vincent held the edge in blocks (2-1), fastbreak points (27-21 and bench points (17-16) while scoring 25 points off 15 Panther turnovers.
