UNION, N.J. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball opened the 2020 season Friday afternoon in Union, New Jersey with a 5-4 loss to the No. 11 Kean University Cougars (3-1) in non-conference action from Jim Hynes '63 Baseball Stadium. The Panthers (0-1) now move to a 3-2 mark against the Cougars dating back to the 2016 campaign.

Old Westbury claimed the early 1-0 lead off three infield errors in the opening inning. With two-outs on the board, John Dell'Olio (2 R, SB) reached base off an error by Cougar starter Bruce Weyand (ND: 6.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 5 K). He stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error by Weyand and then moved 90 feet after an error by third baseman Mike Perone for game's opening run.

Kean responded in the third with one run scored of Panther starter Matt Bohenek (ND: 4.0 IP, 3 H, R, BB) as Frank LoGiudice (1-for-3, RBI, 2 BB, 2B) singled through the left side to score Cristian Corcione (1-for-3, R, 2 RBI SB).

The Panthers went up 2-1 in the fourth inning after Michael Borsch (2-for-4, RBI) hit a two-out RBI single up the middle to round home Oscar Fajardo (1-for-4, R).

Panther righty Joseph Bekios (1.0 IP, R) made his debut and relieved Bohenek in the fifth, where Kean capitalized on an dropped fly by second baseman Brandon Wilson for the equalizer to cross the plate.

Old Westbury scored single runs in the seventh and eighth frames to claim the 4-2 lead. Wilson (2-for-4, RBI) used a sacrifice fly out to left field to push Sean Paprocki (1-for-2, R, BB) home to concluded Weyand's outing in the seventh. Shaun Kaminski (2-for-4, RBI, 2B) doubled down the left field line to round home Dell'Olio on reliever Justin Hernandez (1.0 IP, H, R, BB) in the eighth.

In the bottom of the eighth, Corcione used a two RBI single through the right side gap to score Perone (1-for-2, R, SB) and Josh Jackson (1-for-3, R) as the Cougars tied the game at four on reliever Brandon O'Brien (2.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 3 BB) and concluding his outing.

Old Westbury threatened in the ninth inning leaving Borsch on base after he singled up the middle on Matt Baker (W, 1-0: 1.2 IP, H, 3 K). Baker then induced three straight outs to retire the side.

With one out in the bottom frame of the ninth, Zachary Marzano (2-for-5 ,RBI, 2B) slapped a walk-off double down the right field line on reliever Joe Sarni (L, 0-1: 1.0 IP, 3 H, R) to score Ciaccio and settle the 5-3 final.
