OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury softball senior catcher/infielder Amelia Cariddi has been named to the 2020 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 3 Softball Team, selected by the organization on Thursday. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Cariddi is the only member of the Skyline Conference to advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. CoSIDA will announce the honorees in June.

Cariddi, a graduate of Seaford High School, is majoring in psychology with a minor in social work and represented the Panthers for four seasons (2017-20). The Seaford, New York native excelled in the classroom by compiling a GPA of at least 3.50 which earned her a spot on the Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll six times and landed on the Skyline Conference Academic Honor Roll three times. Cariddi is a member of Old Westbury's Honors College and has earned numerous Old Westbury scholarships and prides herself on volunteering at several organizations and conducting research. After graduation, Carddi has the career goal of becoming a school social worker.

The two-time team captain used her dedication in the classroom and brought it to the playing field athletically. In her rookie season, Cariddi hit .316 (18-for-57) while recording 10 RBI, seven walks and 10 runs scored in 19 starts. She also compiled six multi-hit games including a 3-for-4 performance at the dish in a 4-1 setback against St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn).

Cariddi put together a memorable sophomore campaign in 2018 to be named All-Skyline Conference First-Team. She started in 23 games between first base (15) and catcher (8) to lead the team with a career-high .460 batting average (29-for-63) and its return to the Skyline Conference Championship for the first time since 2012. Cariddi also compiled career highs in slugging percentage (.556), on-base percentage, hits (29), runs (17), doubles (6) and walks (12). The conference second-best hitter ranked 22nd in the nation in on-base percentage (.547) and 54th in batting average.

A season ago, Cariddi batted .273 with eight runs, six walks and five RBI. She also tallied at least one RBI in four-consecutive games in which she hit .384 with a trio of doubles.

We congratulate Amelia for taking advantage of her educational and athletic opportunities as a Panther student-athlete and thank her for using her talents to help represent SUNY Old Westbury in the best possible manner.
