OW Women's Basketball begins Skyline Conference winning on Samirah Akinfunmi's lay-up

Ja'nya Flash records a double double - 24 points and 18 rebounds on the win, 66-65

Old Westbury, NY

The SUNY Old Westbury Women's Basketball team traveled to Mount St. Vincent College, Bronx, NY for their first Skyline match-up on December 4, 2021.  The Old Westbury Panthers (1-1, 1-1 Skyline) beat Mount St. Vincent Dolphins (5-2, 3-2 Skyline) with the score of 66-65.

The Old Westbury Panthers, playing in only the 2nd game this season, played with determination in route to a win.  There were narrow margins each quarter of play for points scored and many lead changes.   Game high for Ja'nya Flash using her leadership to create her double double with 24 points and 18 rebounds.  Samirah Akinfunmi took charge the remaining minute of the game with a defensive rebound, 3 point play off of a lay-up bringing the score to 64-63.   With :18 seconds left in the game the Dolphins scored a lay-up giving Mount St. Vincent a one point lead 64-65.  Coach Bryant Lassiter used a timeout to focus him team on the remaining :17 seconds of the game.  When the action resumed, Samirah Akinfunmi again scores a lay-up with :11 seconds left in the game.  Following the time out taken by Mount St. Vincent, Old Westbury tallied a foul allowing only :03 seconds left for the Dolphins to try to win the game.  Mount St. Vincent are able to take a 3 point shot that was unsuccessful and the Panthers win their first game of the season - 66-65.

Samirah Akinfunmi - 12 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals
Cherish Francis - 9 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal
Melinda Harris - 8 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists
Kasiobi Okenwa - 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 steal

Farmingdale State Athletics - Statement Regarding Fans - Winter 2021-22

The following rules are in place for spectators effective immediately (New rules are highlighted in BOLD):

1. All fans must show proof of vaccination (NYS Excelsior Pass, vaccination card) upon entering the facility OR provide a negative PCR COVID test taken within 72 hours of the posted game time OR show a negative rapid test result taken within 4 hours of the posted game time. This is mandatory for everyone ages five and older. If one of these three are not presented, you WILL NOT be allowed inside Nold Hall.

2. All fans must wear masks indoors at all times regardless of your vaccination status.

3. Fans are required to practice social distancing protocols.

4. Spectators are not permitted to interact with players or coaches before, during or after games.

5. Tailgating is not permitted.
