The Old Westbury men's soccer team dropped the season opener against New Jersey City University by a score of 3-1 on Thursday afternoon.
Both teams were scoreless through the first half, but the Gothic Knights held a 14-2 shot advantage going into the break. Jacobo Espinosa opened up the scoring for NJCU in the 58th minute. Espinosa tacked on another goal less than two minutes later to give the hosts the lead.
Tiago Tirado scored for the Panthers at 72:12 and was assisted by
Rudy Velasquez to make the score 2-1. Velasquez crossed the ball off a set piece just outside the top right corner of the 18-yard box, which bounced off the bottom of the left goal post and Tirado finished the rebound. Jorkaef Fallas added another goal for NJCU at 77' to secure the win for the Gothic Knights.
In the net for Old Westbury,
James Perciballi collected nine saves through 90 minutes.
The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, September 7th in an away contest against York College.
