OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball team hosted SUNY Geneseo as they returned to their home court in the Clark Center Gymnasium for the first time in nearly three years. The Panthers fell to the Knights by a final score of 81-23.
After playing on the road (including home games) for the entirety of last season, being back on-campus for home games was a breath of fresh air for many players, coaches and especially fans.
Phalan Smith had a strong day statistically for the Panthers. Smith scored 12 points including a three pointer and recorded a steal as well as nine rebounds on the day.
Another big performer in the tough defeat for the Panthers was
Fatima Thompson. In 35 minutes, Thompson scored five points and two rebounds.
In addition to their 23 points, the team as a whole finished the day with two steal, four assists and 32 rebounds. A big struggle for the team came in the turnover battle as the team totaled 18 turnovers.
The Knights capitalized off points from the Panther's mistakes and scored 21 points off turnovers alone. Audrey Hintz had a big day for the Knights as the leading scorer of the game. She scored 20 points and totaled five rebounds, one assist and a steal. Additionally, Kiley Snow played well with 17 points, two blocks, one steal and three rebounds.
At the end of the day, the Panthers fell short but will look to rebound as the team prepares to take on York College in their next matchup. The team hosts York on Saturday, November 18 in the Clark Center Gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 12pm.
