OLD WESTBURY, NY – The SUNY Old Westbury Panthers were defeated by the Saint Joseph's University of Long Island Golden Eagles by a final score of 77-44.
The Golden Eagles struck first, and did not look back, holding the lead for the entire game. The Panthers struggled to keep up with the offensive forces of the Golden Eagles. The Golden Eagles shot 45 percent on the night from the floor but only converted on three of 23 shots from behind the arc. The Golden Eagles were led in scoring by Lanyah Ford. She finished the night with 19 points as well as three boards, and an assist. Ford also had two steals. Casey Travers also had a good night with 15 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.
The Golden Eagles showed their physicality, scoring 52 points from inside the painted area. The team had no problem sharing the ball and had 17 assists as a team.
Despite the team's struggles, the Panthers' leading scorer was
MaLaura Olivier. She ended the night with 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Phalan Smith led the team in rebounds, recording a total of 10. Smith also put up five points and two assists.
Both teams struggled with fouls, as the two teams found themselves in foul trouble at early points in each quarter. Both teams recorded 24 fouls throughout the game, with many players nearing a total of five, and close to fouling out.
All in all, the Panthers will look to bounce back and regroup as they prepare to take on Baruch College on Monday, December 4. The game will start at 6pm in the Clark Center Gymnasium.
