Women's Basketball Unsuccessful Against Manhattanville College

OLD WESTBURY, NY - The SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball team was taken down by the Valliants of Manhattanville College on Saturday by a final score of 106-42. 
 
The Panthers were playing from behind for practically the whole game and saw troubles on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. 
 
The Valliants were in control from the start. As the first quarter moved along, the Panthers found themselves down by 17 points with the Valliants ahead, 29-12. 
 
In the second quarter, the Panthers scored their lowest number of points in the contest. The Panthers were only able to score nine points and shot 14 percent from the floor. While OW's offense was stagnant, Manhattanville had their strongest scoring quarter, putting up 32 points. The Valliants shot the ball 58 percent from field goal range and 60 percent from three-point range. The half came to a close with Manhattanville ahead and a score of 61-21.
 
The second half featured much of the same with the Valliants only continuing to pile on the points. At the end of the third quarter, the Panthers led by 57 points, and a score of 89-32. 
 
Manhattanville slowed their scoring as they made several substitutions at the beginning of the fourth quarter. The Valliants defeated the Panthers by a comfortable margin and a final score of 106-42. 
 
For the Panthers, Tyela Davidson continued her strong play. Davidson scored 20 points and had three rebounds, and a steal. Allysha Thomas came one basket shy of a double-double as she finished the game with eight points and 10 rebounds. Phalan Smith secured nine rebounds while also scoring four points and recording two assists, a block and two steals. 
 
Manhattanville had several scorers hit double digits. Julianna Kascic led the way with 20 points, six rebounds, an assist, and two steals. Julie Debrocky also had a strong game, finishing with 16 points, five rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Angela Downey finished the day with 13 points, and two assists. 
 
While the Panthers struggled in this one, the team will regroup and prepare for another Skyline Conference matchup next week. The team will travel to take on Farmingdale State College on Tuesday, January 30. Tip-off is set for 6pm on Farmingdale's campus.
