Men's Basketball Falls to Sarah Lawrence College on Tuesday Night

BRONXVILLE, NY – The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team was defeated on the road against the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence College on Tuesday night by a final score of 69-56.

The Panthers struggled throughout the game and could not seem to get things going on either end of the court. The lead changed hands just three times, just within the first couple of possessions.

Jordan Johnson-Rader scored the first points of the game in the paint off a nice layup. Amadi Lee-Kane would score next with a mid-range jumper. From there, the Gryphons began a run that they would hold for the remainder of the game. With just about half of the first period remaining, the Panthers trailed by 11 points after the Gryphons connected on a couple of three-pointers.

The Gryphons' largest lead of the first half was 13 points. The Panthers were able to hit a three-point shot to close out the half, courtesy of Lee-Kane and enter the break only down by 10 points. The Gryphons were up with a score of 33-23.

Coming into the second half the Panthers continued to struggle to get things working offensively. The Gryphons took advantage of this and piled on the points, growing their lead to 16 points with just over five minutes remaining in the game.

After a couple missed free-throws and errant possessions, the Panthers could overcome the powerful offense of the Gryphons. Sarah Lawrence defeated SUNY Old Westbury by a final score of 69-56.

For the Panthers, Amadi Lee-Kane continued to play some of his best basketball. Lee-Kane was the game's leading scorer. He finished the night with 33 points and six rebounds. Lee-Kane went 5-8 from downtown and shot 57 percent from the floor. Another big contributor in this one for OW was Chris Smith who amassed five points, seven rebounds, a block and a steal.

As a team, Old Westbury shot the ball 38 percent from the floor and 40 percent from behind-the-arc. The Panther's bench only contributed 10 points in this one.

The Gryphons were led in scoring by Aiden Morel. He finished the game with 17 points, one rebound, and a steal. Another top scorer for the Gryphons was Eamon Kelly who recorded 16 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Andrew Kim rounded out the top performers with 13 points, three rebounds, nine assists, a block and a steal.

Sarah Lawrence shot 42 percent from the floor throughout the game and 43 percent from three-point range. Unlike the Panthers, the Gryphons relied heavily on their bench for scoring. The Gryphons had 27 points from their reserves and scored 16 points off turnovers.

All in all, the Panthers' struggles this season continue. The team will regroup and turn its attention towards their next Skyline Conference matchup. The St. Joseph's University-Long Island Golden Eagles will host the Panthers on Saturday, February 3 at 12pm.
