Men's Basketball Picks Up Win Over Baruch on Wednesday Night

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team defeated the Baruch College Bearcats by a score of 88-74 on Wednesday night.
 
The Panthers advance to 2-0 on the season.
 
Baruch found an early lead as they led 17-11, just six minutes into the first half. After a slow back and forth the Panthers would eventually get the lead back at 24-23 with five minutes remaining in the half. OW would finish the half on a 16-3 run and entered the break with a 40-27 lead.
 
Old Westbury shot 44 percent from the field in the first half and held Baruch to just 33 percent from the floor. The Panthers also won the rebounding battle, 26-20.
 
Old Westbury continued to play with a strong pace into the second half keeping distance from the Bearcats. Baruch could only get a close at seven points in the second half and Old Westbury took the game by a final score of 88-75.
 
Amadi Lee-Kane led the way for the Panthers with 24 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Old Westbury also saw strong games from Kellen Leake and Chris Smith who scored 14 and 10 points, respectively. 
 
The Panthers finished the game shooting the three at a season high pace of 55 percent, while holding Baruch to 32 percent. Old Westbury also finished the game with 11 players recording over three minutes, all of which recorded at least one rebound.
 
This marks the first win for the Panthers against Baruch since the 2017-18 season.
 
Next up, the Panthers return home to take on John Jay. The Bloodhounds have won four straight games against the Panthers, but the last time these two have played on Old Westbury's campus was in 1992.
 
John Jay has a 2-1 record so far on the season, beating OW's Skyline Conference rival, Sarah Lawrence by 17 points. The game is scheduled to take place on Sunday, November 17 at 1 PM in the Clark Center Gymnasium.
