Women’s Soccer Secures First Victory of the Season Over York As Offense Shines on Wednesday Afternoon

JAMAICA, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer team walked away with their first win of the season as they defeated the Cardinals of York College on Wednesday afternoon. The final score was 6-1 in favor of the Panthers. 
 
The Panthers found their stride offensively as they accumulated 11 shots on goal throughout the first half. 
 
The team's first goal came just under nine minutes into the first half thanks to First-Year Jocelyn Forseth off a nice assist from Jocelyn Perez
 
With an early 1-0 lead, the Panthers offense continued to work as Eleni Petri scored her first goal of the afternoon just 20 minutes in. Petri's goal was assisted by Kristen Gallagher.
 
Around the 23-minute mark, it was Jocelyn Perez's turn to score. Perez helped grow the Panthers' lead to 3-0 as she was assisted by Petri.
 
Petri would score another goal just about seven minutes later. This time, she was assisted by Jennifer Pasquariello
 
With a 4-0 lead for the Panthers, the Cardinals finally answered back. Neptune Zaria found the back of the net to close the gap and cut the Panthers lead to 4-1. 
 
OW went into halftime with a 4-1 lead over York. 
 
In the second half, Petri continued to shine on offense as she scored her third goal of the afternoon.
 
With now a 5-1 lead, the final Panthers' goal was scored by Adelia Slavinskaya who came off the bench. Slavinskaya was assisted by Forseth. 
 
The Panthers held the Cardinals to a scoreless second half. Old Westbury would hold on and walk away with the 6-1 victory. This win advances the Panthers to 1-3 on the young season. 
 
For Old Westbury, Eleni Petri led the team across the board. Petri finished the game with three goals, and one assist. She took a total of six shots with three of them being on goal and in the back of the net. 
 
Jocelyn Forseth had a strong afternoon as she finished with one goal and one assist. Jocelyn Perez also shined as she amassed one goal and one assist in just over 60 minutes of playing time. 
 
Throughout the game, York only took two shots on goal. Despite this, Goalkeeper Kristen Gallagher finished with one save as well as her assist on Petri's goal.
 
All in all, it was a great showing for the Panthers across the board as they picked up their first win of the campaign. Next up, the Panthers will continue their road trip with a non-conference matchup against Lehman College on Saturday, September 14 at 3:30 PM. Following that, the team will return home on Sunday, September 15 for a game against Five Towns. That game is scheduled to begin at 11 AM.
