Men's Basketball Opens Home Slate Against John Jay

The SUNY Old Westbury Panthers opened the home portion of the 2025-26 schedule last night from the Clark Athletic Center with a 74-57 loss to the Bloodhounds of John Jay College. Old Westbury falls to 0-5 on the season while John Jay improved to 1-3.

The Panthers struggled in the first half, shooting at 29 percent from the field that put them behind by 13 at the break, 37-24. A strong performance from the foul line, going 9-of-10 in the final 20 minutes, paired with four three-pointers, kept Old Westbury in the contest.

The Bloodhounds threatened to pull away with things early in the second half, but three points from both Tyseer Rahman and Michael Maiorella paired with two foul shots from Joel Ofori kept Old Westbury within striking distance, 61-47 with under eight minutes to play. From there, however, John Jay put together a 12-2 run to lead by 25 in the final three minutes. The final eight points over 2:46 of game time would be scored by the Panthers, but it was not enough to overcome the slow start.

Old Westbury returns to action on Friday, November 21 at York College at 6:00 p.m. from Jamaica, New York.
