The Old Westbury men's basketball team rounded out the opening weekend of the 2025-26 season with a 100-62 loss to St. Joseph's College of Maine. Old Westbury dropped to 0-2 with the loss.
The Panthers were led by 19 points and six rebounds from freshman
Christian Thomas. Freshman
Jermaine King Jr. followed with six points and three steals. Sophomore
Joel Ofori also pulled down six boards while adding 11 points and three assists. Sophmore
Yigit Balta led with four assists while sophomore
Ahmad Sackor matched King's three steals.
After an early 8-0 run from the Monks, the Panthers responded with a 10-2 run of their own to come within one, 13-12. The run saw seven points from King. The teams remained within striking distance of one another until St. Joseph's pulled ahead to a double digit lead in the final minute of the first half, a deficit too large for the Panthers to overcome.Â
Old Westbury heads to Westfield, Massachusetts next weekend for the Rick Martin/Hampton Inn Classic hosted by Westfield State University. The weekend begins in a bout with the host Owls on Friday, November 14 at 5:30 p.m.
