The SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball team fell to the Bears of St. Joseph's Brooklyn in Skyline Conference action, 75-54. The loss sets Old Westbury at 1-4 on the season and 0-4 in league play while the Bears improve to 5-3 (1-3 Skyline).
Thalia Fowler led the Panthers wit 17 points on the afternoon, shooting three-of-four from long distance, and added six rebounds and two steals.
Aissata Kone followed with 12 points, five rebounds, and a team-leading four assists.
Brianne Belizaire led under the glass with 11 rebounds to go with three steals and eight points.Â
Sakmet Lewis also had eight points followed by seven from
Sonasia Walker.
Moneasia McCloud had two blocks.Â
The first quarter was tightly contested with the Panthers shooting over 46 percent from the floor. Neither team gained more than a one-possession advantage, and the score was tied through the final second of the frame before a three-pointer from Jasmine Chan-Clayton made it 18-15 in favor of St. Joe's.Â
An 11-point rally from the visitors kicked off the second quarter that Old Westbury would be unable to come back from.Â
The Panthers return to play on Saturday (Dec. 6) at Sarah Lawrence College at 12:00 PM.Â
