Men’s Volleyball Drops Opening Conference Match to Sarah Lawrence on Thursday Night

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's volleyball team was defeated by the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence on Thursday, 3-0.

The Panthers now drop to 0-2 overall on the season and 0-1 in Skyline Conference play.

Sarah Lawrence got off to a fast start as they found a 6-1 early lead. The Panthers were able to respond with a run of their own thanks to kills by Liam Eisel and Yevhenii Reutskyi and three errors by SLC.

The Panthers remained in the fight throughout the set even bringing the set to a 20-20 draw. Despite this, the Gryphons would go on to close out the opening set, 25-21.

The second set, which would be the most competitive set, was a lot of back-and-forth. Neither side would pull ahead with a significant lead. Old Westbury reached the deciding set point but would lose their momentum. Sarah Lawrence managed to close out the second set, 26-24.

In what would be the final set, the Panthers struggled to match the attack of the Gryphons throughout. Sarah Lawrence would find an early and large lead and kept it for the duration of the set. SLC would take the third and final set, 25-16 and win the match, 3-0.

In his collegiate debut, Liam Eisel led the Panthers in kills. Eisel finished the night with 14 kills. Daniel Feliz also had a strong impact on the attack as he finished with seven kills. Yevhenii Reutskyi recorded six kills, one block and two assists. Jose Lorenzo Santos finished with five assists, and 14 digs.

Next up, the Panthers will continue their homestand and play host to the Lions of Bryn Athyn. That match will take place on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 12 PM in the Clark Center Gymnasium.
