Men's Volleyball Defeated by Bryn Athyn on Saturday Afternoon

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's volleyball team was defeated by the Bryn Athyn Lions, 3-0 on Saturday. The Panthers now sit at 0-3 on the young season.
 
The first set started tight with an early 3-3 start, until Bryn Athyn took an 11-4 run which would give them a 14-7 lead. The Lions lead would never dip below five as they closed it out, winning the set 25-17. The Panthers had three blocks in the set, but Bryn Athyn countered with three service aces of their own.
 
The second set began with another early run from the Lions taking an 8-2 lead. Old Westbury would respond, cutting the Lions' lead to just two at 10-8 thanks to two service aces by Damien Villamill.
 
The set would go the distance as the Panthers would tie it again at 24-24, but Bryn Athyn would close out the set with two straight points winning, 26-24. Liam Eisel led the way with nine kills throughout the second set.
 
The third set was close to open with both teams going back and forth as Old Westbury had a 9-8 edge. The Panthers would go on a 6-1 run to take a 15-9 lead. The Lions would respond and yet again the set went the distance tied at 24. Bryn Athyn would eventually take the set winning 31-29 to give them a 3-0 match victory.
 
Both Liam Eisel and Damien Villamill led the way for Old Wesbury with 19 and 16 kills, respectively. The Panthers had five blocks as a team compared to the Lions' one.
 
Next up for Old Westbury is a match against the Pratt Institute. Start time is scheduled for 7 PM on Thursday, February 13 in the Clark Center Gymnasium.
