Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men’s Volleyball Goes 1-3 During Spring Break Matches; Secures Big Victory over St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn on Tuesday Night

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's volleyball team took part in two tri-matches over spring break. OId Westbury hosted Yeshiva and St. Joseph's-Brooklyn where OW went 1-1. The Panthers then participated in a tri-match with Sarah Lawrence and Ramapo where the team went 0-2.
 
Old Westbury defeated the Bears of St. Josephs-Brooklyn last night, 3-1. 
 
The Panthers now sit at 6-14 overall on the season and hold a conference record of 4-10. 
 
Sunday, March 16- SUNY Old Westbury vs Yeshiva, 3-0 (W)
 
The Panthers were dominant in their first match of the day. Old Westbury finished the three-set match with 42 kills as a team. The Panthers were able to secure 65 points, 18 service aces five blocks and 38 assists throughout the set. 


The Panthers held Yeshiva to just 20 points combined and took the match, 3-0. 
 
Sunday, March 16- SUNY Old Westbury vs St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, 2-3 (L)
 
Old Westbury struggled in their second match of the day compared to their performance against Yeshiva. The Bears held the Panthers to just 55 points and an attacking percentage of .180. After picking up the first set, the Panthers would fall short in the second set. OW kept things close, picking up the third set. SJBK would make it interesting and sent it to five sets where they secured the final set victory taking the match, 3-2. 
 
Saturday, March 22- SUNY Old Westbury vs Sarah Lawrence, 0-3 (L)
 
The Gryphons came out of the gates strong as their attack overpowered the Panthers' defensive efforts. The Gryphons managed to take three straight sets, all by somewhat of a comfortable margin. Sarah Lawrence finished the set with 54 total points, 39 kills, eight aces and seven blocks. 
 
Saturday, March 22- SUNY Old Westbury vs Ramapo, 0-3 (L)
 
In the Panthers' second match of the tri-match the team fell short in three sets. Old Westbury recorded just 22 total points, 17 kills, four aces, one block and 15 assists. 

Torrence Fredericks led the team in kills with six. Liam Eisel finished with two kills and one assist. Damian Villamil recorded three kills, one ace and five digs. 
 
Tuesday, March 25- SUNY Old Westbury vs St. Joseph's Brooklyn, 3-1 (W)
The Panthers came out strong on Tuesday night, taking the opening set 25-21. The Panthers put up 10 kills in the first set of the night and saw 31 total attacks. Old Westbury minimized their mistakes with just four errors as a team. 
 
Old Westbury carried their momentum into the second set as the team was victorious, 27-25. The Panthers were able to record 15 kills and 33 attacks. 
 
St. Joseph's-Brooklyn found their groove in the third set, taking the victory 25-21 despite the Panthers efforts, the Bears forced a fourth set. 
 
The Panthers managed to come back in the fourth set and take down the Bears in dominant fashion. The Panthers would take the fourth set, 25-15 and win the match, 3-1. The fourth set saw 11 kills from the Panthers and just four errors. 
 
Next up, the Panthers will continue conference play with another tri-match. The Panthers will host the Valiants of Manhattanville University and Panthers of Purchase on Saturday, March 29. The first match will take place at 10 AM followed by the Panthers' second match at 2 PM in the Clark Center Gymnasium.
