Women’s Lacrosse Secures First Victory Over Purchase in Skyline Battle on Friday Afternoon

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse team was victorious on Friday afternoon with a victory over the Panthers of Purchase College on Friday. The final score was 6-2 in favor of Old Westbury. 
 
The Panthers now improve to 1-2 on the campaign and hold a conference record of 1-0. 
 
Old Westbury got going first on the scoreboard as Katia Maisonneuve found the back of the net to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. 
 
Just a few moments later, Caitlyn Subero would score an unassisted goal to make it a 2-0, OW lead. 
 
Purchase responded with just over a minute remaining in the first quarter with a goal of their own. At the end of the first quarter, Old Westbury held a 2-1 lead. 
 
In the second quarter, the Panthers of Old Westbury scored once thanks to a free-position goal by Amanda Chasan. Old Westbury carried a 3-1 lead going into halftime. 
 
In the third quarter, Ashley Maniscalco found the back of the net as she was assisted by Chasan to give the Panthers a 4-1 lead. 
 
Old Westbury added two more goals courtesy of Chasan who was assisted by Subero and Katherine Campbell.
 
Purchase would score with 6:36 remaining but would not complete their comeback. Old Westbury managed to walk away with the victory, 6-2. 
 
Amanda Chasan dominated as she finished the day with three goals, one assist, and five shots on goal. Chasan also had two ground balls. Katia Maisonneuve finished the day with a goal, five ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers. Caitlyn Subero finished the game with one goal, two ground balls and four draw controls. Ashley Maniscalco recorded one goal, three caused turnovers. 
 
In net, Jara Gonzalez recorded the win. Gonzalez allowed just two goals while recording 11 saves. Gonzalez faced 13 total shots on goal.
 
Next up, the Panthers will continue conference play as the team will travel to take on Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday, April 1. That game is set to begin at 7 PM.
