Men’s Volleyball Defeated by Manhattanville on Wednesday Night

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's volleyball team was taken down by the Valiants of Manhattanville University on Wednesday night. The Valiants took the match, 3-1. 
 
Old Westbury now falls to 4-8 overall on the season and holds a conference record of 2-4. 
 
The Panthers entered this match coming off a sweep of Mount Saint Vincent on Monday night. Old Westbury brought their energy in the first set. The Panthers had a strong attack. As a team they had 31 total attacks in the set with nine kills. The Panthers trailed 20-23 at one point in the opening set but managed to score six straight points to comeback. Old Westbury would take the opening set thanks to three-straight service. Aces from Damian Villamil, 25-23.
 
In the second set, Manhattanville came out of the gates strong as they scored the first six points, unanswered. The Valiants remained out in front for the entire set and found a comfortable 24-13 lead. Despite two late points from the Panthers, the Valiants would take set two comfortably, 25-13. 
 
The third set was more competitive than the second set as the two sides combined for 64 total attacks. Manhattanville found an early 5-1 lead again, but the Panthers were able to respond and make it a 7-7 tie.  Despite this, a five-point scoring run to make the score 22-16 would set the Valiants up to take the set. Manhattanville would hold on to take the third set, 25-28. 
 
In what would be the final set of the night, the two sides were competitive yet again. Neither team would take any major advantage until the Valiants' five-point run to make it 22-16. Manhattanville would capitalize on some errors by Old Westbury and went on to take the fourth set, 25-19. The Valiants took the match, 3-1. 
 
For the Panthers, Liam Eisel dominated as he finished the night with 16 kills, two aces, and 10 digs. Yevhenii Reutskyi had a strong night as well as he recorded three kills and two blocks. Damian Villamil finished the night with 10 digs as well as four aces. 
 
Next up, the Panthers will return home for another Skyline Conference match. Old Westbury will play host to Ramapo College on Friday, March 7. The match will take place in the Clark Center Gymnasium and is set to begin at 7 PM.
